Contemporary Papers on Japanese Religion: "This series is a collection of recent studies on Japanese religion, translated from Japanese into English by Norman Havens. It is one of the important purposes of the establishment of the Institute for Japanese Culture and Classics to promote the international exchange of researchers and scholarly information relating to Japanese culture. Toward that end, we have published three volumes of papers, and are preparing to publish the fourth volume."

These are local healing and divining personalities, either male or female, who still function in urban and rural settings throughout Taiwan.
